Confession of Sin   Introduction Most merciful God,
we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. Psalm 16

⁽¹⁾ Keep me safe, O God, for in you I take refuge. ⁽²⁾ I said to the LORD, 'You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing.' ⁽³⁾ As for the saints who are in the land, they are the glorious ones in whom is all my delight. ⁽⁴⁾ The sorrows of those will increase who run after other gods. I will not pour out their libations of blood or take up their names on my lips.

Isaiah 42

⁽¹⁰⁾ Sing to the LORD a new song, his praise from the ends of the earth, you who go down to the sea, and all that is in it, you islands, and all who live in them. ⁽¹¹⁾ Let the desert and its towns raise their voices; let the settlements where Kedar lives rejoice. Ephesians 3

⁽¹⁾ For this reason I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for the sake of you Gentiles-- ⁽²⁾ Surely you have heard about the administration of God's grace that was given to me for you, ⁽³⁾ that is, the mystery made known to me by revelation, as I have already written briefly. ⁽⁴⁾ In reading this, then, you will be able to understand my insight into the mystery of Christ,

⁽⁵⁾ which was not made known to men in other generations as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to God's holy apostles and prophets. ⁽⁶⁾ This mystery is that through the gospel the Gentiles are heirs together with Israel, members together of one body, and sharers together in the promise in Christ Jesus. ⁽⁷⁾ I became a servant of this gospel by the gift of God's grace given me through the working of his power. ⁽⁸⁾ Although I am less than the least of all God's people, this grace was given me: to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ,

⁽⁹⁾ and to make plain to everyone the administration of this mystery, which for ages past was kept hidden in God, who created all things. ⁽¹⁰⁾ His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, ⁽¹¹⁾ according to his eternal purpose which he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord. ⁽¹²⁾ In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.

Mark 2

⁽¹³⁾ Once again Jesus went out beside the lake. A large crowd came to him, and he began to teach them. ⁽¹⁴⁾ As he walked along, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax collector's booth. 'Follow me,' Jesus told him, and Levi got up and followed him. ⁽¹⁵⁾ While Jesus was having dinner at Levi's house, many tax collectors and 'sinners' were eating with him and his disciples, for there were many who followed him. ⁽¹⁶⁾ When the teachers of the law who were Pharisees saw him eating with the 'sinners' and tax collectors, they asked his disciples: 'Why does he eat with tax collectors and 'sinners'?'

⁽¹⁷⁾ On hearing this, Jesus said to them, 'It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.' ⁽¹⁸⁾ Now John's disciples and the Pharisees were fasting. Some people came and asked Jesus, 'How is it that John's disciples and the disciples of the Pharisees are fasting, but yours are not?' ⁽¹⁹⁾ Jesus answered, 'How can the guests of the bridegroom fast while he is with them? They cannot, so long as they have him with them. ⁽²⁰⁾ But the time will come when the bridegroom will be taken from them, and on that day they will fast.

⁽²¹⁾ No one sews a patch of unshrunk cloth on an old garment. If he does, the new piece will pull away from the old, making the tear worse. ⁽²²⁾ And no one pours new wine into old wineskins. If he does, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the wineskins will be ruined. No, he pours new wine into new wineskins.'

The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

The Collect of the Week:  First Sunday after the Epiphany: The Baptism of our Lord
Father in heaven, who at the baptism of Jesus in the River Jordan proclaimed him your beloved Son and anointed him with the Holy Spirit: Grant that all who are baptized into his Name may keep the covenant they have made, and boldly confess him as Lord and Savior; who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, in glory everlasting. The General Thanksgiving
