Epiphany
Nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising. Isaiah 60:3

Confession of Sin

Most merciful God,
I confess that I have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what I have done, and by what I have left undone. I have not loved you with my whole heart; I have not loved my neighbors as myself. I am truly sorry and I humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on me and forgive me; that I may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen

The Invitatory and Psalter
Lord, open our lips. And our mouth shall proclaim your praise
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen   Alleluia

Venite
Psalm 95:1 to 7

Come, let us sing to the Lord;
   let us shout for joy to the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come before his presence with thanksgiving
   and raise a loud shout to him with psalms.
For the Lord is a great God,
   and a great King above all gods.
In his hand are the caverns of the earth,
   and the heights of the hills are his also.
The sea is his, for he made it,
   and his hands have molded the dry land.
Come, let us bow down, and bend the knee,
   and kneel before the Lord our Maker.
For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand.
    Oh, that today you would hearken to his voice!

The Antiphon:
?  a short sentence recited before or after a psalm to help us understand the readings
Alleluia. To us a child is born: O come, let us adore him. Alleluia.

The Lessons

Psalm Chapter 117

(1) Praise the LORD, all you nations; extol him, all you peoples. (2) For great is his love toward us, and the faithfulness of the LORD endures forever. Praise the LORD.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

Psalm Chapter 118

(1) Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. (2) Let Israel say: 'His love endures forever.' (3) Let the house of Aaron say: 'His love endures forever.' (4) Let those who fear the LORD say: 'His love endures forever.'

(5) In my anguish I cried to the LORD, and he answered by setting me free. (6) The LORD is with me; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me? (7) The LORD is with me; he is my helper. I will look in triumph on my enemies. (8) It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in man.

(9) It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in princes. (10) All the nations surrounded me, but in the name of the LORD I cut them off. (11) They surrounded me on every side, but in the name of the LORD I cut them off. (12) They swarmed around me like bees, but they died out as quickly as burning thorns; in the name of the LORD I cut them off.

(13) I was pushed back and about to fall, but the LORD helped me. (14) The LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. (15) Shouts of joy and victory resound in the tents of the righteous: 'The LORD's right hand has done mighty things! (16) The LORD's right hand is lifted high; the LORD's right hand has done mighty things!'

(17) I will not die but live, and will proclaim what the LORD has done. (18) The LORD has chastened me severely, but he has not given me over to death. (19) Open for me the gates of righteousness; I will enter and give thanks to the LORD. (20) This is the gate of the LORD through which the righteous may enter.

(21) I will give you thanks, for you answered me; you have become my salvation. (22) The stone the builders rejected has become the capstone; (23) the LORD has done this, and it is marvelous in our eyes. (24) This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

(25) O LORD, save us; O LORD, grant us success. (26) Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD. From the house of the LORD we bless you. (27) The LORD is God, and he has made his light shine upon us. With boughs in hand, join in the festal procession up to the horns of the altar. (28) You are my God, and I will give you thanks; you are my God, and I will exalt you.

(29) Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.

Exodus Chapter 17

(1) The whole Israelite community set out from the Desert of Sin, traveling from place to place as the LORD commanded. They camped at Rephidim, but there was no water for the people to drink. (2) So they quarreled with Moses and said, 'Give us water to drink.' Moses replied, 'Why do you quarrel with me? Why do you put the LORD to the test?' (3) But the people were thirsty for water there, and they grumbled against Moses. They said, 'Why did you bring us up out of Egypt to make us and our children and livestock die of thirst?' (4) Then Moses cried out to the LORD, 'What am I to do with these people? They are almost ready to stone me.'

(5) The LORD answered Moses, 'Walk on ahead of the people. Take with you some of the elders of Israel and take in your hand the staff with which you struck the Nile, and go. (6) I will stand there before you by the rock at Horeb. Strike the rock, and water will come out of it for the people to drink.' So Moses did this in the sight of the elders of Israel. (7) And he called the place Massah and Meribah because the Israelites quarreled and because they tested the LORD saying, 'Is the LORD among us or not?'

The Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

Colossians Chapter 1

(15) He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. (16) For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. (17) He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. (18) And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.

(19) For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, (20) and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross. (21) Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. (22) But now he has reconciled you by Christ's physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation--

(23) if you continue in your faith, established and firm, not moved from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant.

The Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

John Chapter 7

(37) On the last and greatest day of the Feast, Jesus stood and said in a loud voice, 'If anyone is thirsty, let him come to me and drink. (38) Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him.' (39) By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified. (40) On hearing his words, some of the people said, 'Surely this man is the Prophet.'

(41) Others said, 'He is the Christ.' Still others asked, 'How can the Christ come from Galilee? (42) Does not the Scripture say that the Christ will come from David's family and from Bethlehem, the town where David lived?' (43) Thus the people were divided because of Jesus. (44) Some wanted to seize him, but no one laid a hand on him.

(45) Finally the temple guards went back to the chief priests and Pharisees, who asked them, 'Why didn't you bring him in?' (46) No one ever spoke the way this man does,' the guards declared. (47) You mean he has deceived you also?' the Pharisees retorted. (48) Has any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed in him?

(49) No! But this mob that knows nothing of the law-- there is a curse on them.' (50) Nicodemus, who had gone to Jesus earlier and who was one of their own number, asked, (51) Does our law condemn anyone without first hearing him to find out what he is doing?' (52) They replied, 'Are you from Galilee, too? Look into it, and you will find that a prophet does not come out of Galilee.'

The Gospel of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

A Song to the Lamb

Revelation 4:11, 5:9 to 10, 13

Splendor and honor and kingly power
are yours by right, O Lord our God,
For you created everything that is,
and by your will they were created
  and have their being;
And yours by right, O Lamb that was slain,
for with your blood you have redeemed for God,
From every family, language, people, and nation,
a kingdom of priests to serve our God.
And so, to him who sits upon the throne,
and to Christ the Lamb,
Be worship and praise, dominion and splendor,
forever and forevermore.

O whales and all that move in the waters.
All birds of the air, glorify the Lord,

The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord.
  He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
  He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
  He descended to the dead.
  On the third day he rose again.
  He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
  He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
  the holy catholic Church,
  the communion of saints,
  the forgiveness of sins,
  the resurrection of the body,
  and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Prayers

The Lord's Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven,
  hallowed be thy Name,
  thy kingdom come, thy will be done,
  on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
  And forgive us our trespasses,
  as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
  but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
  and the power, and the glory,
  forever and ever. Amen.

Suffrages
?a short intercessory prayer

Show us your mercy, O Lord;
And grant us your salvation.
Clothe your ministers with righteousness;
Let your people sing with joy.
Give peace, O Lord, in all the world;
For only in you can we live in safety.
Lord, keep this nation under your care;
And guide us in the way of justice and truth.
Let your way be known upon earth;
Your saving health among all nations.
Let not the needy, O Lord, be forgotten;
Nor the hope of the poor be taken away.
Create in us clean hearts, O God;
And sustain us by your Holy Spirit.

Seasonal Collect:  The Epiphany
O God, by the leading of a star you manifested your only Son to the peoples of the earth: Lead us, who know you now by faith, to your presence, where we may see your glory face to face; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

The Collect of the Day:   Almighty God, who after the creation of the world rested from all your works and sanctified a day of rest for all your creatures: Grant that we, putting away all earthly anxieties, may be duly prepared for the service of your sanctuary, and that our rest here upon earth may be a preparation for the eternal rest promised to your people in heaven; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

A Prayer for Mission:
Lord Jesus Christ, you stretched out your arms of love on the hard wood of the cross that everyone might come within the reach of your saving embrace: So clothe us in your Spirit that we, reaching forth our hands in love, may bring those who do not know you to the knowledge and love of you; for the honor of your Name. Amen.

Personal Prayers and Reflection

This is a time to pause, consider and listen. Pray for yourself and others.

Closing Prayers

Thanksgiving
Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we your unworthy servants give you humble thanks for all your goodness and loving-kindness to us and to all whom you have made. We bless you for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all for your immeasurable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ; for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory. And, we pray, give us such an awareness of your mercies, that with truly thankful hearts we may show forth your praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives, by giving up ourselves to your service, and by walking before you in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory throughout all ages. Amen.

Conclude with following
Lord Jesus Christ, you stretched out your arms of love on the hard wood of the cross that everyone might come within the reach of your saving embrace: So clothe us in your Spirit that we, reaching forth our hands in love, may bring those who do not know you to the knowledge and love of you; for the honor of your Name. Amen.
