Confession of Sin

Most merciful God,
I confess that I have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what I have done, and by what I have left undone. I have not loved you with my whole heart; I have not loved my neighbors as myself. I am truly sorry and I humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on me and forgive me; that I may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen

The Lessons

Psalm Chapter 1

⁽¹⁾ Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. ⁽²⁾ But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. ⁽³⁾ He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers. ⁽⁴⁾ Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away.

⁽⁵⁾ Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous. ⁽⁶⁾ For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.

Psalm Chapter 2

⁽¹⁾ Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain? ⁽²⁾ The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the LORD and against his Anointed One. ⁽³⁾ Let us break their chains,' they say, 'and throw off their fetters.' ⁽⁴⁾ The One enthroned in heaven laughs; the Lord scoffs at them.

⁽⁵⁾ Then he rebukes them in his anger and terrifies them in his wrath, saying, ⁽⁶⁾ I have installed my King on Zion, my holy hill.' ⁽⁷⁾ I will proclaim the decree of the LORD: He said to me, 'You are my Son; today I have become your Father. ⁽⁸⁾ Ask of me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth your possession.

Psalm Chapter 3

Genesis Chapter 2

⁽⁴⁾ This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created. When the LORD God made the earth and the heavens-- ⁽⁵⁾ and no shrub of the field had yet appeared on the earth and no plant of the field had yet sprung up, for the LORD God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no man to work the ground, ⁽⁶⁾ but streams came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground-- ⁽⁷⁾ the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

⁽⁸⁾ Now the LORD God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed. ⁽⁹⁾ And the LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground-- trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. ⁽¹⁰⁾ A river watering the garden flowed from Eden; from there it was separated into four headwaters. ⁽¹¹⁾ The name of the first is the Pishon; it winds through the entire land of Havilah, where there is gold.

⁽¹²⁾ (The gold of that land is good; aromatic resin and onyx are also there.) ⁽¹³⁾ The name of the second river is the Gihon; it winds through the entire land of Cush. ⁽¹⁴⁾ The name of the third river is the Tigris; it runs along the east side of Asshur. And the fourth river is the Euphrates. ⁽¹⁵⁾ The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.

⁽¹⁶⁾ And the LORD God commanded the man, 'You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; ⁽¹⁷⁾ but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die.' ⁽¹⁸⁾ The LORD God said, 'It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.' ⁽¹⁹⁾ Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the beasts of the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name.

⁽²⁰⁾ So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of the air and all the beasts of the field. But for Adam no suitable helper was found. ⁽²¹⁾ So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man's ribs and closed up the place with flesh. ⁽²²⁾ Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. ⁽²³⁾ The man said, 'This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called 'woman', for she was taken out of man.'

⁽²⁴⁾ For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh. ⁽²⁵⁾ The man and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame.

Hebrews Chapter 1

⁽¹⁾ In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, ⁽²⁾ but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe. ⁽³⁾ The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven. ⁽⁴⁾ So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs.

⁽⁵⁾ For to which of the angels did God ever say, 'You are my Son; today I have become your Father'? Or again, 'I will be his Father, and he will be my Son'? ⁽⁶⁾ And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says, 'Let all God's angels worship him.' ⁽⁷⁾ In speaking of the angels he says, 'He makes his angels winds, his servants flames of fire.' ⁽⁸⁾ But about the Son he says, 'Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever, and righteousness will be the scepter of your kingdom.

⁽⁹⁾ You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.' ⁽¹⁰⁾ He also says, 'In the beginning, O Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. ⁽¹¹⁾ They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. ⁽¹²⁾ You will roll them up like a robe; like a garment they will be changed. But you remain the same, and your years will never end.'

⁽¹³⁾ To which of the angels did God ever say, 'Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet'? ⁽¹⁴⁾ Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?

John Chapter 1

⁽¹⁾ In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. ⁽²⁾ He was with God in the beginning. ⁽³⁾ Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. ⁽⁴⁾ In him was life, and that life was the light of men.

We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. ⁽¹⁵⁾ John testifies concerning him. He cries out, saying, 'This was he of whom I said, 'He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.'' ⁽¹⁶⁾ From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another.

⁽¹⁷⁾ For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. ⁽¹⁸⁾ No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father's side, has made him known.

The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord.
  He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
  He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
  He descended to the dead.
  On the third day he rose again.
  He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
  He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

Thanksgiving
Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we your unworthy servants give you humble thanks for all your goodness and loving-kindness to us and to all whom you have made. We bless you for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all for your immeasurable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ; for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory. And, we pray, give us such an awareness of your mercies, that with truly thankful hearts we may show forth your praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives, by giving up ourselves to your service, and by walking before you in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory throughout all ages. Amen.

Almighty God, you have given us grace at this time with one accord to make our common supplication to you; and you have promised through your well-beloved Son that when two or three are gathered together in his Name you will be in the midst of them: Fulfill now, O Lord, our desires and petitions as may be best for us; granting us in this world knowledge of your truth, and in the age to come life everlasting.
