Confession of Sin

Most merciful God,
I confess that I have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what I have done, and by what I have left undone. I have not loved you with my whole heart; I have not loved my neighbors as myself. I am truly sorry and I humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on me and forgive me; that I may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

The Absolution
Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen

Jeremiah Chapter 13

⁽¹⁾ Thus the LORD said to me: 'Go and get yourself a linen sash, and put it around your waist, but do not put it in water.' ⁽²⁾ So I got a sash according to the word of the LORD, and put it around my waist. ⁽³⁾ And the word of the LORD came to me the second time, saying, ⁽⁴⁾ Take the sash that you acquired, which is around your waist, and arise, go to the Euphrates, and hide it there in a hole in the rock.'

⁽⁵⁾ So I went and hid it by the Euphrates, as the LORD commanded me. ⁽⁶⁾ Now it came to pass after many days that the LORD said to me, 'Arise, go to the Euphrates, and take from there the sash which I commanded you to hide there.' ⁽⁷⁾ Then I went to the Euphrates and dug, and I took the sash from the place where I had hidden it; and there was the sash, ruined. It was profitable for nothing. ⁽⁸⁾ Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

⁽⁹⁾ Thus says the LORD: 'In this manner I will ruin the pride of Judah and the great pride of Jerusalem. ⁽¹⁰⁾ This evil people, who refuse to hear My words, who follow the dictates of their hearts, and walk after other gods to serve them and worship them, shall be just like this sash which is profitable for nothing. ⁽¹¹⁾ For as the sash clings to the waist of a man, so I have caused the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah to cling to Me,' says the LORD, 'that they may become My people, for renown, for praise, and for glory; but they would not hear.'

Romans Chapter 6

⁽¹²⁾ Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. ⁽¹³⁾ And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. ⁽¹⁴⁾ For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace. ⁽¹⁵⁾ What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? Certainly not!

⁽¹⁶⁾ Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one's slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness? ⁽¹⁷⁾ But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered. ⁽¹⁸⁾ And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. ⁽¹⁹⁾ I speak in human terms because of the weakness of your flesh. For just as you presented your members as slaves of uncleanness, and of lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves of righteousness for holiness.

⁽²⁰⁾ For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. ⁽²¹⁾ What fruit did you have then in the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. ⁽²²⁾ But now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life. ⁽²³⁾ For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

John Chapter 8

The Apostles' Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord.
  He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.
  He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.
  He descended to the dead.
  On the third day he rose again.
  He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
  He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

Seasonal Collect:  Third Sunday in Lent
Almighty God, you know that we have no power in ourselves to help ourselves: Keep us both outwardly in our bodies and inwardly in our souls, that we may be defended from all adversities which may happen to the body, and from all evil thoughts which may assault and hurt the soul; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

Collect of the Day: Almighty God, who after the creation of the world rested from all your works and sanctified a day of rest for all your creatures: Grant that we, putting away all earthly anxieties, may be duly prepared for the service of your sanctuary, and that our rest here upon earth may be a preparation for the eternal rest promised to your people in heaven; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
