Epiphany
Nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising. Isaiah 60:3
Confession of Sin Most merciful God,
I confess that I have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what I have done, and by what I have left undone. I have not loved you with my whole heart; I have not loved my neighbors as myself. I am truly sorry and I humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on me and forgive me; that I may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.
The Absolution

Now as we come to the setting of the sun
and our eyes behold the vesper light

You are worthy at all times to be praised by happy voices
O Son of God, O Giver of Life
and to be glorified through all worlds. The Lord has shown forth his glory: Come let us adore him.
The Lessons
Psalm 9
(5) You have rebuked the nations and destroyed the wicked; you have blotted out their name for ever and ever. (6) Endless ruin has overtaken the enemy, you have uprooted their cities; even the memory of them has perished. (7) The LORD reigns forever; he has established his throne for judgment. (8) He will judge the world in righteousness; he will govern the peoples with justice.
(9) The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. (10) Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you. (11) Sing praises to the LORD, enthroned in Zion; proclaim among the nations what he has done. (12) For he who avenges blood remembers; he does not ignore the cry of the afflicted.
(13) O LORD, see how my enemies persecute me! Have mercy and lift me up from the gates of death, (14) that I may declare your praises in the gates of the Daughter of Zion and there rejoice in your salvation. (15) The nations have fallen into the pit they have dug; their feet are caught in the net they have hidden. (16) The LORD is known by his justice; the wicked are ensnared by the work of their hands. Higgaion. Selah
(17) The wicked return to the grave, all the nations that forget God. (18) But the needy will not always be forgotten, nor the hope of the afflicted ever perish. (19) Arise, O LORD, let not man triumph; let the nations be judged in your presence. (20) Strike them with terror, O LORD; let the nations know they are but men. Selah
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.
Psalm 15
(5) who lends his money without usury and does not accept a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things will never be shaken.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.
Genesis Chapter 8
(10) He waited seven more days and again sent out the dove from the ark. (11) When the dove returned to him in the evening, there in its beak was a freshly plucked olive leaf! Then Noah knew that the water had receded from the earth. (12) He waited seven more days and sent the dove out again, but this time it did not return to him. (13) By the first day of the first month of Noah's six hundred and first year, the water had dried up from the earth. Noah then removed the covering from the ark and saw that the surface of the ground was dry.
(14) By the twenty-seventh day of the second month the earth was completely dry. (15) Then God said to Noah, (16) Come out of the ark, you and your wife and your sons and their wives. (17) Bring out every kind of living creature that is with you-- the birds, the animals, and all the creatures that move along the ground-- so they can multiply on the earth and be fruitful and increase in number upon it.'
(18) So Noah came out, together with his sons and his wife and his sons' wives. (19) All the animals and all the creatures that move along the ground and all the birds-- everything that moves on the earth-- came out of the ark, one kind after another. (20) Then Noah built an altar to the LORD and, taking some of all the clean animals and clean birds, he sacrificed burnt offerings on it. (21) The LORD smelled the pleasing aroma and said in his heart: 'Never again will I curse the ground because of man, even though every inclination of his heart is evil from childhood. And never again will I destroy all living creatures, as I have done.
(22) As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.'

Hebrews Chapter 4
(5) So Christ also did not take upon himself the glory of becoming a high priest. But God said to him, 'You are my Son; today I have become your Father.' (6) And he says in another place, 'You are a priest forever, in the order of Melchizedek.'
The Word of the Lord.Thanks be to God.
John Chapter 2
(5) Jesus answered, 'I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. (6) Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. (7) You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You must be born again.' (8) The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.'
(9) How can this be?' Nicodemus asked. (10) You are Israel's teacher,' said Jesus, 'and do you not understand these things? (11) I tell you the truth, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, but still you people do not accept our testimony. (12) I have spoken to you of earthly things and you do not believe; how then will you believe if I speak of heavenly things?
(13) No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven-- the Son of Man. (14) Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, (15) that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life.

The Canticles
The Song of Moses       Kyrie Pantokrator Exodus 15:1 to 6, 11 to 13, 17 to 18
I will sing to the Lord, for he is lofty and uplifted;
the horse and its rider has he hurled into the sea.
The Lord is my strength and my refuge;
the Lord has become my Savior.
This is my God and I will praise him,
the God of my people and I will exalt him.
The Lord is a mighty warrior;
Yahweh is his Name.
The chariots of Pharoah and his army has he hurled into the sea;
the finest of those who bear armor have been drowned in the Red Sea.
The fathomless deep has overwhelmed them;
they sank into the depths like a stone.
Your right hand, O Lord, is glorious in might;
your right hand, O Lord, has overthrown the enemy.
Who can be compared with you, O Lord, among the gods?
who is like you, glorious in holiness,
awesome in renown, and worker of wonders?
You stretched forth your right hand;
the earth swallowed them up.
With your constant love you led the people you redeemed;
with your might you brought them in safety to
your holy dwelling.
You will bring them in and plant them
on the mount of your possession,
The resting-place you have made for yourself, O Lord,
the sanctuary, O Lord, that your hand has established.
The Lord shall reign
forever and forever. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.
The Song of Simeon       Nunc Dimittis Luke 2:29-32
Lord, you now have set your servant free
to go in peace as you have promised;
For these eyes of mine have seen the Savior,
whom you have prepared for all the world to see:
A Light to enlighten the nations,
and the glory of your people Israel.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be forever. Amen.
The Apostles' Creed I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only son, our Lord.  He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.  He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried.  He descended to the dead.  On the third day he rose again.  He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father.  He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church,  the communion of saints,  the forgiveness of sins,  the resurrection of the body,  and the life everlasting. Amen.
