Collect for: Third Sunday after Epiphany
Give us grace, O Lord, to answer readily the call of our Savior Jesus Christ and proclaim to all people the Good News of his salvation, that we and the whole world may perceive the glory of his marvelous works; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Old Testament
Jonah 3:1-5, 10

1 Now the word of the LORD came to Jonah the second time, saying, 2 Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and preach to it the message that I tell you.' 3 So Jonah arose and went to Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceedingly great city, a three-day journey in extent. 4 And Jonah began to enter the city on the first day's walk. Then he cried out and said, 'Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown!' 5 So the people of Nineveh believed God, proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest to the least of them.

10 Then God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God relented from the disaster that He had said He would bring upon them, and He did not do it.

Officiant: The Word of the Lord.
The People: Thanks be to God.

Psalm
Psalm 62

1 Truly my soul silently waits for God; From Him comes my salvation. 2 He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be greatly moved. 3 How long will you attack a man? You shall be slain, all of you, Like a leaning wall and a tottering fence. 4 They only consult to cast him down from his high position; They delight in lies; They bless with their mouth, But they curse inwardly. Selah 5 My soul, wait silently for God alone, For my expectation is from Him. 6 He only is my rock and my salvation; He is my defense; I shall not be moved. 7 In God is my salvation and my glory; The rock of my strength, And my refuge, is in God. 8 Trust in Him at all times, you people; Pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. Selah 9 Surely men of low degree are a vapor, Men of high degree are a lie; If they are weighed on the scales, They are altogether lighter than vapor. 10 Do not trust in oppression, Nor vainly hope in robbery; If riches increase, Do not set your heart on them. 11 God has spoken once, Twice I have heard this: That power belongs to God. 12 Also to You, O Lord, belongs mercy; For You render to each one according to his work.

*At the end of the Psalms this is sung or said
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: *
as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.

New Testament
1 Corinthians 7:29-31

29 But this I say, brethren, the time is short, so that from now on even those who have wives should be as though they had none, 30 those who weep as though they did not weep, those who rejoice as though they did not rejoice, those who buy as though they did not possess, 31 and those who use this world as not misusing it. For the form of this world is passing away.

Officiant: The Word of the Lord.
The People: Thanks be to God.

Gospel
Mark 1:14-20

Introduction to the Gospel:
Deacon:The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you. Or And with your spirit
Deacon: May the Lord be on our minds, on our lips, and on our hearts as we hear His Holy Gospel. The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark.
People: Glory to You, Lord Christ.
Deacon: We are reading from Mark's Gospel chapter 1, beginning at verse 14.

14 Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, 15 and saying, 'The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.' 16 And as He walked by the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. 17 Then Jesus said to them, 'Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.' 18 They immediately left their nets and followed Him. 19 When He had gone a little farther from there, He saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the boat mending their nets. 20 And immediately He called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and went after Him.

After the Gospel reading, the deacon elevates the book and says:

Deacon: The Gospel of the Lord.
People: Praise to You, Lord Christ.

Prayers of the People

Prayers of the People for: Third Sunday after Epiphany
Brothers and sisters, the Kingdom of God is at hand.
Therefore, let us pray for our needs and the needs of the whole world.

For the Church; that She will boldly preach the full Gospel to all nations.
Lord in Your mercy,            Hear our prayer.

For elected officials; that they will enact just laws and administer mercy when needed knowing that they are God's representatives.
Lord in Your mercy,            Hear our prayer.

For those who need deliverance from addictions; that they will find that freedom in Christ and in the assistance of His people.
Lord in Your mercy,            Hear our prayer.

For us; that we, like the early disciples, will surrender anything that prevents us from following Him.
Lord in Your mercy,            Hear our prayer.

For wayward children; that God will protect them even as He protected Jonah when he strayed from the Lord.
Lord in Your mercy,            Hear our prayer.

For atheists and all those who practice other world religions; that the light of God's Word will open their eyes to the truth of the Gospel and the Person of Jesus Christ.
Lord in Your mercy,            Hear our prayer.

For those who serve us on the front lines at home and abroad; that they will be protected by the grace of God.
Lord in Your mercy,            Hear our prayer.

God of all time, You sent Your Son to lead us in the way everlasting.
Hear our prayer and give us the grace to leave all behind and follow wherever You lead.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.AMEN
