Gospel
Mark 1:14-20
Deacon:The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you. Or And with your spirit
Deacon: May the Lord be on our minds, on our lips, and on our hearts as we hear His Holy Gospel. The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark.
People: Glory to You, Lord Christ.
Deacon: We are reading from Mark's Gospel chapter 1, beginning at verse 14.
14 Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, 15 and saying, 'The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.' 16 And as He walked by the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. 17 Then Jesus said to them, 'Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.' 18 They immediately left their nets and followed Him. 19 When He had gone a little farther from there, He saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the boat mending their nets. 20 And immediately He called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and went after Him.
After the Gospel reading, the deacon elevates the book and says:
Deacon: The Gospel of the Lord.
People: Praise to You, Lord Christ.
Prayers of the People
Brothers and sisters, the Kingdom of God is at hand.
Therefore, let us pray for our needs and the needs of the whole world.
For the Church; that She will boldly preach the full Gospel to all nations.
Lord in Your mercy, Hear our prayer.
For elected officials; that they will enact just laws and administer mercy when needed knowing that they are God's representatives.
Lord in Your mercy, Hear our prayer.
For those who need deliverance from addictions; that they will find that freedom in Christ and in the assistance of His people.
Lord in Your mercy, Hear our prayer.
For us; that we, like the early disciples, will surrender anything that prevents us from following Him.
Lord in Your mercy, Hear our prayer.
For wayward children; that God will protect them even as He protected Jonah when he strayed from the Lord.
Lord in Your mercy, Hear our prayer.
For atheists and all those who practice other world religions; that the light of God's Word will open their eyes to the truth of the Gospel and the Person of Jesus Christ.
Lord in Your mercy, Hear our prayer.
For those who serve us on the front lines at home and abroad; that they will be protected by the grace of God.
Lord in Your mercy, Hear our prayer.
God of all time, You sent Your Son to lead us in the way everlasting.
Hear our prayer and give us the grace to leave all behind and follow wherever You lead.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.AMEN
