Saint Leo the Great
O Lord our God, grant that your Church, following the teaching of your servant Leo of Rome, may hold fast the great mystery of our redemption, and adore the one Christ, true God and true Man, neither divided from our human nature nor separate from your divine Being; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and? or ever.?
I will remember the works of the LORD; Surely I will remember Your wonders of old. 12
I will also meditate on all Your work, And talk of Your deeds. 13
Your way, O God, is in the sanctuary; Who is so great a God as our God? 14
You are the God who does wonders; You have declared Your strength among the peoples. 15
You have with Your arm redeemed Your people, The sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah *At the end of the Psalms this is sung or said
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: * as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.
Old Testament 22
Through the LORD's mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. 23
They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. 24
The LORD is my portion,' says my soul, 'Therefore I hope in Him!' 25
The LORD is good to those who wait for Him, To the soul who seeks Him. 26
It is good that one should hope and wait quietly For the salvation of the LORD. 27
It is good for a man to bear The yoke in his youth. 28
Let him sit alone and keep silent, Because God has laid it on him; 29
Let him put his mouth in the dust -- There may yet be hope. 30
Let him give his cheek to the one who strikes him, And be full of reproach. 31
For the Lord will not cast off forever. 32
Though He causes grief, Yet He will show compassion According to the multitude of His mercies. 33
For He does not afflict willingly, Nor grieve the children of men. Officiant: The Word of the Lord. The People:
Thanks be to God.
New Testament 6
2 Timothy 1:6-14
Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. 7
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 8
Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the power of God, 9
who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began, 10
but has now been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, who has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel, 11
to which I was appointed a preacher, an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles. 12
For this reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day. 13
Hold fast the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith and love which are in Christ Jesus. 14
That good thing which was committed to you, keep by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us. Officiant: The Word of the Lord. The People:
Thanks be to God.
Gospel Introduction to the Gospel:
Deacon:The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you. Or And with your spirit
Deacon: May the Lord be on our minds, on our lips, and on our hearts as we hear His Holy Gospel. The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew
People: Glory to You, Lord Christ.
Deacon: We are reading from Matthew's Gospel chapter 5, beginning at verse 13
You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men. 14
You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. 15
Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. 17
Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. 18
For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. 19
Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
After the Gospel reading, the deacon can elevate the book and says:
Deacon: The Gospel of the Lord.
People: Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ.
