Saint James of Jerusalem
Grant, O God, that, following the example of your servant James the Just, brother of our Lord, your Church may give itself continually to prayer and to the reconciliation of all who are at variance and enmity; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
New Testament 12
Then all the multitude kept silent and listened to Barnabas and Paul declaring how many miracles and wonders God had worked through them among the Gentiles. 13
And after they had become silent, James answered, saying, 'Men and brethren, listen to me: 14
Simon has declared how God at the first visited the Gentiles to take out of them a people for His name. 15
And with this the words of the prophets agree, just as it is written: 16
After this I will return And will rebuild the tabernacle of David, which has fallen down; I will rebuild its ruins, And I will set it up; 17
So that the rest of mankind may seek the LORD, Even all the Gentiles who are called by My name, Says the LORD who does all these things.' 18
Known to God from eternity are all His works. 19
Therefore I judge that we should not trouble those from among the Gentiles who are turning to God, 20
but that we write to them to abstain from things polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from things strangled, and from blood. 21
For Moses has had throughout many generations those who preach him in every city, being read in the synagogues every Sabbath.' 22
Then it pleased the apostles and elders, with the whole church, to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas, namely, Judas who was also named Barsabas, and Silas, leading men among the brethren. Officiant: The Word of the Lord. The People:
Thanks be to God.
Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; 2
But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. 3
He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper. 4
The ungodly are not so, But are like the chaff which the wind drives away. 5
Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. 6
For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, But the way of the ungodly shall perish. *At the end of the Psalms this is sung or said
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: * as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.
New Testament 1
1 Corinthians 15:1-11
Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, 2
by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you -- unless you believed in vain. 3
For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, 4
and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, 5
and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve. 6
After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep. 7
After that He was seen by James, then by all the apostles. 8
Then last of all He was seen by me also, as by one born out of due time. 9
For I am the least of the apostles, who am not worthy to be called an apostle, because I persecuted the church of God. 10
But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me. 11
Therefore, whether it was I or they, so we preach and so you believed. Officiant: The Word of the Lord. The People:
Thanks be to God.
Gospel Introduction to the Gospel:
Deacon:The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you. Or And with your spirit
Deacon: May the Lord be on our minds, on our lips, and on our hearts as we hear His Holy Gospel. The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Saint Matthew
People: Glory to You, Lord Christ.
Deacon: We are reading from Matthew's Gospel chapter 13, beginning at verse 54
And when He had come to His own country, He taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished and said, 'Where did this Man get this wisdom and these mighty works? 55
Is this not the carpenter's son? Is not His mother called Mary? And His brothers James, Joses, Simon, and Judas? 56
And His sisters, are they not all with us? Where then did this Man get all these things?' 57
So they were offended at Him. But Jesus said to them, 'A prophet is not without honor except in his own country and in his own house.' 58
Now He did not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief.
After the Gospel reading, the deacon can elevate the book and says:
Deacon: The Gospel of the Lord.
People: Praise to You, Lord Jesus Christ.
