O God, you have taught us to keep all your commandments by loving you and our neighbor: Grant us the grace of your Holy Spirit, that we may be devoted to you with our whole heart, and united to one another with pure affection; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Gospel
Mark 6:1-6
Deacon:The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you. Or And with your spirit
Deacon: May the Lord be on our minds, on our lips, and on our hearts as we hear His Holy Gospel. The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark.
People: Glory to You, Lord Christ.
Deacon: We are reading from Mark's Gospel chapter 6, beginning at verse 1.
1 Then He went out from there and came to His own country, and His disciples followed Him. 2 And when the Sabbath had come, He began to teach in the synagogue. And many hearing Him were astonished, saying, 'Where did this Man get these things? And what wisdom is this which is given to Him, that such mighty works are performed by His hands! 3 Is this not the carpenter, the Son of Mary, and brother of James, Joses, Judas, and Simon? And are not His sisters here with us?' And they were offended at Him. 4 But Jesus said to them, 'A prophet is not without honor except in his own country, among his own relatives, and in his own house.' 5 Now He could do no mighty work there, except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them. 6 And He marveled because of their unbelief. Then He went about the villages in a circuit, teaching.
After the Gospel reading, the deacon elevates the book and says:
Deacon: The Gospel of the Lord.
People: Praise to You, Lord Christ.
Prayers of the People
Brothers and sisters, Jesus came to proclaim the Kingdom of God and the favorable year of the Lord.
Therefore, let us enter His Throne Room expecting favor upon our requests.
For the Church; that She will continue to be the light and salt of the earth.
Lord in Your mercy, Hear our prayer.
For nations; that through the prophetic voice of the Church, they will know that God is among them.
Lord in Your mercy, Hear our prayer.
For the protection of widows and orphans, the poor and the defenseless.
Lord in Your mercy, Hear our prayer.
For those who speak up for the sanctity of life.
Lord in Your mercy, Hear our prayer.
For our inner cities; that violence, fear, and despair will be replaced by peace, hope, prosperity and revival.
Lord in Your mercy, Hear our prayer.
For the Jewish people; that they will recognize Jesus as the promised Messiah, the one Moses pointed them to.
Lord in Your mercy, Hear our prayer.
For the love God demonstrated to us in Jesus Christ, our Lord.
For us; that we will walk by faith and not by sight, trusting in God alone throughout every circumstance.
Lord in Your mercy, Hear our prayer.
For the sick among us; that they will be restored to health by a touch from the Lord.
Lord in Your mercy, Hear our prayer.
Great and Everlasting God, as You answer our prayers, grant us the grace and courage to answer Your call to holiness and remain faithful till life's end.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.AMEN
