Collect for: Proper 7 O Lord, make us have perpetual love and reverence for your holy Name, for you never fail to help and govern those whom you have set upon the sure foundation of your loving kindness; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. Old Testament Isaiah 65:1-9 1 I was sought by those who did not ask for Me; I was found by those who did not seek Me. I said, 'Here I am, here I am,' To a nation that was not called by My name. 2 I have stretched out My hands all day long to a rebellious people, Who walk in a way that is not good, According to their own thoughts; 3 A people who provoke Me to anger continually to My face; Who sacrifice in gardens, And burn incense on altars of brick; 4 Who sit among the graves, And spend the night in the tombs; Who eat swine's flesh, And the broth of abominable things is in their vessels; 5 Who say, 'Keep to yourself, Do not come near me, For I am holier than you!' These are smoke in My nostrils, A fire that burns all the day. 6 Behold, it is written before Me: I will not keep silence, but will repay -- Even repay into their bosom -- 7 Your iniquities and the iniquities of your fathers together,' Says the LORD, 'Who have burned incense on the mountains And blasphemed Me on the hills; Therefore I will measure their former work into their bosom.' 8 Thus says the LORD: 'As the new wine is found in the cluster, And one says, 'Do not destroy it, For a blessing is in it,' So will I do for My servants' sake, That I may not destroy them all. 9 I will bring forth descendants from Jacob, And from Judah an heir of My mountains; My elect shall inherit it, And My servants shall dwell there. Psalm Psalm 40 1 I waited patiently for the LORD; And He inclined to me, And heard my cry. 2 He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, Out of the miry clay, And set my feet upon a rock, And established my steps. The LORD has kept His promise of love 3 He has put a new song in my mouth -- Praise to our God; Many will see it and fear, And will trust in the LORD. 4 Blessed is that man who makes the LORD his trust, And does not respect the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies. The LORD has kept His promise of love 5 Many, O LORD my God, are Your wonderful works Which You have done; And Your thoughts toward us Cannot be recounted to You in order; If I would declare and speak of them, They are more than can be numbered. 6 Sacrifice and offering You did not desire; My ears You have opened. Burnt offering and sin offering You did not require. The LORD has kept His promise of love 7 Then I said, 'Behold, I come; In the scroll of the book it is written of me. 8 I delight to do Your will, O my God, And Your law is within my heart.' The LORD has kept His promise of love 9 I have proclaimed the good news of righteousness In the great assembly; Indeed, I do not restrain my lips, O LORD, You Yourself know. 10 I have not hidden Your righteousness within my heart; I have declared Your faithfulness and Your salvation; I have not concealed Your lovingkindness and Your truth From the great assembly. The LORD has kept His promise of love 11 Do not withhold Your tender mercies from me, O LORD; Let Your lovingkindness and Your truth continually preserve me. The LORD has kept His promise of love *At the end of the Psalms this is sung or said Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: * as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. New Testament Galatians 3:23-29 23 But before faith came, we were kept under guard by the law, kept for the faith which would afterward be revealed. 24 Therefore the law was our tutor to bring us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith. 25 But after faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor. 26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. Or And with your spirit Deacon: May the Lord be on our minds, on our lips, and on our hearts as we hear His Holy Gospel. The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke. People: Glory to You, Lord Christ. Deacon: We are reading from Luke's Gospel chapter 8, beginning at verse 22. 22 Now it happened, on a certain day, that He got into a boat with His disciples. And He said to them, 'Let us cross over to the other side of the lake.' And they launched out. 23 But as they sailed He fell asleep. And a windstorm came down on the lake, and they were filling with water, and were in jeopardy. 24 And they came to Him and awoke Him, saying, 'Master, Master, we are perishing!' Then He arose and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water. And they ceased, and there was a calm. 25 But He said to them, 'Where is your faith?' And they were afraid, and marveled, saying to one another, 'Who can this be? For He commands even the winds and water, and they obey Him!' After the Gospel reading, the deacon elevates the book and says: Deacon: The Gospel of the Lord. People: Praise to You, Lord Christ. Prayers of the People Prayers of the People for: Proper 7 Brothers and sisters, we are children of God by grace through faith, for we have been baptized into Christ and thus heirs according to God's promises. Therefore, let us bring our needs and the needs of the whole world before Him. That the Patriarch and all Bishops, as successors of the Apostles, will clearly teach and lovingly guide His Church. Lord in Your mercy,            Hear our prayer. That just as Christ brought us peace with God, may nations strive for peace with one another. Lord in Your mercy,            Hear our prayer. That fathers who are unemployed, or struggling to support their families, will find gainful employment. Lord in Your mercy,            Hear our prayer. That husbands and wives will be strengthened in their love, respect and concern for one another. Lord in Your mercy,            Hear our prayer. That we will have a zealous desire to know and do God's Will. Lord in Your mercy,            Hear our prayer. That those who are fearful of the trials they are going through today will put their faith in God, Who is able to calm any storm. Lord in Your mercy,            Hear our prayer. That our children will learn the ways of the Lord and become faithful disciples of Christ. Lord in Your mercy,            Hear our prayer. Almighty God, You are our help and our fortress. Hear our prayer and may Your love and faithfulness always protect and deliver us from all evil. We ask this through Christ our Lord. AMEN
