Collect for: Proper 25 Almighty and everlasting God, increase in us the gifts of faith, hope, and charity; and, that we may obtain what you promise, make us love what you command; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Old Testament Jeremiah 31:7-9 7 For thus says the LORD: 'Sing with gladness for Jacob, And shout among the chief of the nations; Proclaim, give praise, and say, 'O LORD, save Your people, The remnant of Israel!' 8 Behold, I will bring them from the north country, And gather them from the ends of the earth, Among them the blind and the lame, The woman with child And the one who labors with child, together; A great throng shall return there. 9 They shall come with weeping, And with supplications I will lead them. New Testament Hebrews 7:23-28 23 Also there were many priests, because they were prevented by death from continuing. 24 But He, because He continues forever, has an unchangeable priesthood. 25 Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them. 26 For such a High Priest was fitting for us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and has become higher than the heavens; 27 who does not need daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the people's, for this He did once for all when He offered up Himself. 28 For the law appoints as high priests men who have weakness, but the word of the oath, which came after the law, appoints the Son who has been perfected forever. Or And with your spirit Deacon: May the Lord be on our minds, on our lips, and on our hearts as we hear His Holy Gospel. The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Saint Mark. People: Glory to You, Lord Christ. Deacon: We are reading from Mark's Gospel chapter 10, beginning at verse 46. 46 Now they came to Jericho. As He went out of Jericho with His disciples and a great multitude, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the road begging. 47 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, 'Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!' 48 Then many warned him to be quiet; but he cried out all the more, 'Son of David, have mercy on me!' 49 So Jesus stood still and commanded him to be called. Then they called the blind man, saying to him, 'Be of good cheer. Rise, He is calling you.' 50 And throwing aside his garment, he rose and came to Jesus. 51 So Jesus answered and said to him, 'What do you want Me to do for you?' The blind man said to Him, 'Rabboni, that I may receive my sight.' 52 Then Jesus said to him, 'Go your way; your faith has made you well.' And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus on the road. After the Gospel reading, the deacon elevates the book and says: Deacon: The Gospel of the Lord. People: Praise to You, Lord Christ. Prayers of the People Prayers of the People for: Proper 25 Brothers and sisters, with Jesus as our High Priest, Who makes intercession for us, let us go to the Father for our needs and the needs of the whole world. For the Holy Spirit and His Gifts. That the Church will faithfully carry out Her mission to make disciples, to teach the truths of the Gospel and to Baptize in the Name of the Trinity. Lord in Your mercy,            Hear our prayer. That nations will seek peace with one another and respect each other's differences. Lord in Your mercy,            Hear our prayer. That poverty, prejudice, oppression and violence in our inner cities will be replaced with hope, peace, prosperity and revival. Lord in Your mercy,            Hear our prayer. That those imprisoned and those who work in our prison system will remain humane and compassionate. Lord in Your mercy,            Hear our prayer. That we will rejoice always and in everything give thanks for all the great things the Lord has done for us. Lord in Your mercy,            Hear our prayer. That we, like Bartimeaus, will have our eyes opened and see Jesus more clearly. Lord in Your mercy,            Hear our prayer. That those who have lost loved ones will find comfort in the promises of the Risen Christ. Lord in Your mercy,            Hear our prayer. Heavenly Father, You showed mercy to the blind man who called out to you in faith. Hear our prayer and give us the faith to trust You in all life's circumstances. We ask this through Christ our Lord. AMEN
