Deacon:The Lord be with you.
People: And also with you. Or And with your spirit
Deacon: May the Lord be on our minds, on our lips, and on our hearts as we hear His Holy Gospel. The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Saint John.
People: Glory to You, Lord Christ.
Deacon: We are reading from John's Gospel chapter 6, beginning at verse 24.
24 when the people therefore saw that Jesus was not there, nor His disciples, they also got into boats and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus. 25 And when they found Him on the other side of the sea, they said to Him, 'Rabbi, when did You come here?' 26 Jesus answered them and said, 'Most assuredly, I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled. 27 Do not labor for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him.' 28 Then they said to Him, 'What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?' 29 Jesus answered and said to them, 'This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.' 30 Therefore they said to Him, 'What sign will You perform then, that we may see it and believe You? What work will You do? 31 Our fathers ate the manna in the desert; as it is written, 'He gave them bread from heaven to eat.' ' 32 Then Jesus said to them, 'Most assuredly, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, but My Father gives you the true bread from heaven. 33 For the bread of God is He who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.' 34 Then they said to Him, 'Lord, give us this bread always.' 35 And Jesus said to them, 'I am the bread of life. He who comes to Me shall never hunger, and he who believes in Me shall never thirst.
After the Gospel reading, the deacon elevates the book and says:
Deacon: The Gospel of the Lord.
People: Praise to You, Lord Christ.
Prayers of the People
Brothers and sisters, God knows our needs before we even ask, yet He desires for us to come to Him and ask.
Therefore, let us bring our requests and those of the whole world before Him.
That the Church, God's ambassador on earth, will boldly proclaim 'the kingdom of God is at hand.
' Lord in Your mercy, Hear our prayer.
That believers will worship in unity around the Eucharistic Table.
Lord in Your mercy, Hear our prayer.
That men and women who desire to know and do God's Will will be elected to positions of authority in government.
Lord in Your mercy, Hear our prayer.
For our daily provisions.
That as Jesus is the Bread of Life, may His people, through the grace of God and their prayers and efforts, establish a culture of life in our time.
Lord in Your mercy, Hear our prayer.
That we will be a thankful people and put our efforts toward those things which are eternal and not temporal.
Lord in Your mercy, Hear our prayer.
That there will be peace in our inner cities and reconciliation among races.
Lord in Your mercy, Hear our prayer.
For our own special intentions.
(Pause) Lord in Your mercy, Hear our prayer.
Giver of Life, You provided for Your people even while they were in the wilderness.
Hear our prayer and give us the grace to hunger for Christ above all else.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
