Confession of Sin

Most merciful God,
I confess that I have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what I have done, and by what I have left undone. I have not loved you with my whole heart; I have not loved my neighbors as myself. I am truly sorry and I humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on me and forgive me; that I may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen

Psalm 146

(1) Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD, O my soul! (2) While I live I will praise the LORD; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being. (3) Do not put your trust in princes, Nor in a son of man, in whom there is no help. (4) His spirit departs, he returns to his earth; In that very day his plans perish.

(5) Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, Whose hope is in the LORD his God, (6) Who made heaven and earth, The sea, and all that is in them; Who keeps truth forever, (7) Who executes justice for the oppressed, Who gives food to the hungry. The LORD gives freedom to the prisoners. (8) The LORD opens the eyes of the blind; The LORD raises those who are bowed down; The LORD loves the righteous.

(9) The LORD watches over the strangers; He relieves the fatherless and widow; But the way of the wicked He turns upside down. (10) The LORD shall reign forever -- Your God, O Zion, to all generations. Praise the LORD!

Psalm 147

(1) Praise the LORD! For it is good to sing praises to our God; For it is pleasant, and praise is beautiful. (2) The LORD builds up Jerusalem; He gathers together the outcasts of Israel. (3) He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds. (4) He counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by name.

(5) Great is our Lord, and mighty in power; His understanding is infinite. (6) The LORD lifts up the humble; He casts the wicked down to the ground. (7) Sing to the LORD with thanksgiving; Sing praises on the harp to our God, (8) Who covers the heavens with clouds, Who prepares rain for the earth, Who makes grass to grow on the mountains.

(9) He gives to the beast its food, And to the young ravens that cry. (10) He does not delight in the strength of the horse; He takes no pleasure in the legs of a man. (11) The LORD takes pleasure in those who fear Him, In those who hope in His mercy. (12) Praise the LORD, O Jerusalem! Praise your God, O Zion!

(13) For He has strengthened the bars of your gates; He has blessed your children within you. (14) He makes peace in your borders, And fills you with the finest wheat. (15) He sends out His command to the earth; His word runs very swiftly. (16) He gives snow like wool; He scatters the frost like ashes;

(17) He casts out His hail like morsels; Who can stand before His cold? (18) He sends out His word and melts them; He causes His wind to blow, and the waters flow. (19) He declares His word to Jacob, His statutes and His judgments to Israel. (20) He has not dealt thus with any nation; And as for His judgments, they have not known them. Praise the LORD!

Genesis 1

(1) In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. (2) The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. (3) Then God said, 'Let there be light'; and there was light. (4) And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness.

(5) God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day. (6) Then God said, 'Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.' (7) Thus God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament; and it was so. (8) And God called the firmament Heaven. So the evening and the morning were the second day.

(9) Then God said, 'Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear'; and it was so. (10) And God called the dry land Earth, and the gathering together of the waters He called Seas. And God saw that it was good. (11) Then God said, 'Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth'; and it was so. (12) And the earth brought forth grass, the herb that yields seed according to its kind, and the tree that yields fruit, whose seed is in itself according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.

(13) So the evening and the morning were the third day. (14) Then God said, 'Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years; (15) and let them be for lights in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth'; and it was so. (16) Then God made two great lights: the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night. He made the stars also.

(17) God set them in the firmament of the heavens to give light on the earth, (18) and to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. (19) So the evening and the morning were the fourth day. (20) Then God said, 'Let the waters abound with an abundance of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the face of the firmament of the heavens.'

(21) So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that moves, with which the waters abounded, according to their kind, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. (22) And God blessed them, saying, 'Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.' (23) So the evening and the morning were the fifth day. (24) Then God said, 'Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind: cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according to its kind'; and it was so.

(25) And God made the beast of the earth according to its kind, cattle according to its kind, and everything that creeps on the earth according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. (26) Then God said, 'Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.' (27) So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. (28) Then God blessed them, and God said to them, 'Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.'

(29) And God said, 'See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food. (30) Also, to every beast of the earth, to every bird of the air, and to everything that creeps on the earth, in which there is life, I have given every green herb for food'; and it was so. (31) Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day. (1) Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished. (2) And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. (3) Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.

Thanks be to God.

Ephesians 1

(3) Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, (4) just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, (5) having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, (6) to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He has made us accepted in the Beloved.

(7) In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace (8) which He made to abound toward us in all wisdom and prudence, (9) having made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His good pleasure which He purposed in Himself, (10) that in the dispensation of the fullness of the times He might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven and which are on earth -- in Him.

(11) In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, (12) that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory. (13) In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, (14) who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.

The Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

John 1

(29) The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, 'Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world! (30) This is He of whom I said, 'After me comes a Man who is preferred before me, for He was before me.' (31) I did not know Him; but that He should be revealed to Israel, therefore I came baptizing with water.' (32) And John bore witness, saying, 'I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and He remained upon Him.

(33) I did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, 'Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.' (34) And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.'

Seasonal Collect:  First Sunday after the Epiphany: The Baptism of our Lord
Father in heaven, who at the baptism of Jesus in the River Jordan proclaimed him your beloved Son and anointed him with the Holy Spirit: Grant that all who are baptized into his Name may keep the covenant they have made, and boldly confess him as Lord and Savior; who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,
  hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
  And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
  but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
  forever and ever. Amen.

Closing Prayers

The General Thanksgiving

Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we your unworthy servants give you humble thanks for all your goodness and loving-kindness to us and to all whom you have made. We bless you for our creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all for your immeasurable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ; for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory. And, we pray, give us such an awareness of your mercies, that with truly thankful hearts we may show forth your praise, not only with our lips, but in our lives, by giving up ourselves to your service, and by walking before you in holiness and righteousness all our days; through Jesus Christ our Lord, to whom, with you and the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory throughout all ages. Amen.

Conclude with following
Almighty and everlasting God, by whose Spirit the whole body of your faithful people is governed and sanctified: Receive our supplications and prayers which we offer before you for all members of your holy Church, that in their vocation and ministry they may truly and devoutly serve you; through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.
