Bread of Life CEC in Dousman, Wisconsin has started a new mission in the inner city of Milwaukee.  After several years of preparation and searching, the new mission held its first Eucharist and community meal on Sunday, January 18, 2015.  Bread of Life Assistant Priest Father Steven Block will be the Vicar of the new mission.  The mission is being hosted by New Born Christ Baptist Church in Milwaukee, and meets every Sunday afternoon at 1pm.  Eight members of Bread of Life are making the transition to the new work with Father Steve and reaching out into the neighborhood, which is among the poorest in the city of Milwaukee.

The new mission is the only sacramental/liturgical church in the neighborhood, and is already sparking great interest. The first Sunday was attended by 26 people who enjoyed Eucharist and a meal afterward.  The new mission is being called St. Martin’s CEC, after St. Martin of Tours who gave the coat off his back to a beggar.  Every Sunday will include the Holy Eucharist and a simple meal for those who attend.  As well as providing regular meals to the homeless, Bread of Life has operated a clothing and food pantry for several years, and we have been invited by our host to set up that ministry at the new mission.

Photos of the event may be found at Bread of Life’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/breadoflifecec.
